Team Corley Cycles came into existence in 2007 with a unique approach to sponsorship and motivation. The team is a joint venture with Willen Hospice. Willen Hospice provides specialist services and care for cancer sufferers and others with life limiting illnesses. Wins and places in races and other competitive cycling events trigger contributions to a fund that is presented to the charity at the end of each racing season. In 2007 Team Corley Cycles raised £4500 and bettered it in 2008 by raising £6000.
Phil Corley, one time British National Professional Road Race Champion, is delighted to be able to support local competitive cycle racing as well as help a very worthwhile local charity. "The linkage based on competitive success will give the team a unique competitive and motivational edge which will be channeled to helping a great cause".
The team includes a number of Elite, first and second category riders including current Masters Champion (30-34 age category) Matt Higgins. Other riders include ex-LVRC Champion for the 40-44 age group Roy Chamberlain, Richard Cartland, Mark Wordsworth, brothers Karl and Martin Freeman, Nick Jones, Don Parry and Tom Kirk. Our two new signings for 2009 are Simon Gaywood, last winner of the Archer Grand Prix, and Christopher McNamara
